Bathroom Grab Bars

Bathroom Grab Bars, An Essential Safety Feature For A Modern Bathroom

Moen Kingsley Grab Bar in Oil Rubbed Bronze and  Moen Home Care 18" Grab Bar in Polished Brass, or a Bridge Medical Single Grip Portable Grab Bar?

The bathroom is one of the most accident prone rooms in the house, with only the kitchen challenging for that honor. Accidents occur in the bathroom for one simple reason. While in the kitchen it is heat, fire, scolding and burns caused while cooking, in the bathroom it is quite simply water, combined with slippery surfaces. Safety in the bathroom is always an issue, even with a healthy young family. Once age and disability come into the equation, then bathroom safety is a major issue. (Note: If you have children, though, never forget the safe storage of medicines and cleaning materials, as these pose a big danger to young children especially.)

One of the safety features you should always consider is the use of bathroom grab bars. Slipping on slippery surfaces in the bathtub, shower or tiled bathroom floor is a major potential problem, and can take you by complete surprise. With most bathrooms being small, and a hard wall never far away, the prospect is not just for broken bones but for serious or even fatal head injury. So, it is definitely a matter to be taken seriously by all.

When it comes to choosing bathroom grab bars, it is a pointless exercise if you do not put safety first. By all means take into account the décor aspect, but the security and safety of the grab bars is paramount. They can become a hazard in themselves if they are not securely fitted and able to deal with your weight. Having said that, you should be able to find garb bars at a modest price which comply with American Safety Standards.

Bathroom grab bars either fit to a wall or to the tub, and they use either suction or are fitted to the wall with screws. Either can work, so long as they meet safety standards, although I would personally feel more secure with screws. Those which are designed to fit to the bathroom wall come in variety of designs, but even such as the stylish Moen YG5424ORB Kingsley Grab Bar in Oil Rubbed Bronze and the Moen R8718PB Home Care 18" Grab Bar in Polished Brass are well under $100 at about the $70 mark.

Others include the chrome Cosco Ability Care Tub Grab Bar at under $50, the suction style Bridge Medical Single Grip Portable Grab Bar at about $70 and the Franklin Brass FB580 6" x 15" Aluminum Tub Bar at about $30. These are all designed to meet Amrican Safety Standards, and there are many more to choose from. Do not worry about your bathroom décor, as you will surely find a grab bar to match
